Seasons Greetings

Just a quick note from Rainbow Point Lodge to say a big hello and Happy Holidays to all of our guests in the US, Canada and abroad who we are also proud to call our friends. Thanks for all the wonderful cards, e-mails and letters. We sure appreciate hearing from you and look forward to seeing so many of you this coming season.

Tomorrow, December 26th is Boxing Day in Canada (always the day after Christmas). We hear many of you chuckle at us mentioning this national day. Now adays Boxing Day in Canada is kind of like the US Black Friday being a day off for many people & a great day for huge after Christmas sales. But.. What is Boxing Day?

"This is a tradition based on British History and roots, and is recognized in most commonwealth countries. Boxing Day was a day the higher classes gave gifts to the lower classes. Before or on December 25th people of similar class would exchange gifts to celebrate the Christmas season. Gifts were not exchanged with the lower class until the next day called Boxing Day. The holiday is named Boxing Day because the tradition of giving gifts of cash, food, clothing and other goods to the less fortunate were placed into boxes for easier transportation. The goods were distributed based on the family needs and their services to the giver."
